There are many ways how you can spend day with your soul mate: romantic date, trip together, cozy evening at home. But to really surprise your other half, there is no better way than to organize a photo shoot in the genre of Love Story. Here are some Ideas for “Love story” photo shoot.

Love story is my favorite photography genre and I am eager to share some of the most interesting ideas I have. I hope this post will inspire you greatly!

Home comfort

One of the rarest but most endearing photo shoots you can do is within the walls of your own home. This may be too intimate for some, but the trick is that the objects that surround you emphasize your personality. It’s both beautiful and sentimental at the same time. Just imagine that you changed your living place, what memory you’ll have about it? All the precious moments will be saved in pictures! Your soul mate will enjoy looking through these pictures for sure. As for the photographer, it will be much easier for him to work with models that are relaxed at home, and it is easier to convey their mood and the nature of the relationship.

Use natural landscapes as background

If you want to get photos that are truly breathtaking, it is worth paying attention to the most natural background that you can imagine – the natural landscape. Whether it’s a romantic sunset, forest, mountains or beach, the photos are guaranteed to be . There’s a certain beauty in it, just like in the scenes from your favorite movies. You just have to remember that photos with landscapes require the feel of geometry and composition. Try to take landscape pictures without a couple, while imagining that they are there. It is a good trick that I used frequently to train myself.

Perfect date

Maybe you never planned a perfect date. But try to imagine how it will pass? Picnic in nature or a walk in a busy city? Restaurant or park holiday? Or maybe some city event or music festival? And now, when you know exactly what the perfect date looks like, it remains only to capture it on film (or on memory card). My clients always get excited when they start thinking about what their perfect date would look like. I get simply overwhelmed by the sheer amount of ideas pouring on me! This is an awesome trick to get to set the mood even before the shoot!

Unrestrained fun

If the couple has a sense of humor and likes to laugh, be sure to reflect it in the photos. Ask the couple to behave like children, to play and to have fun!  Pictures where you catch radiant smiles and infectious laughter will be forever cherished. To catch humor in pictures is not an easy thing to do, so you’d better be creative.

I advise to write a list of some games you can easily organize during the photoshoot or maybe take some props with you. In addition, I always have colored chalks in my working bag, just in case I’d find some cool wall to draw on while we walk from place to place. I ask my couple to stand next to each other and write a few things they love or hate about each other. This technique works like a charm every time!

Roleplay is fun

Sometimes your couple want to radically change the image of themselves, to become someone else for the time of the photoshoot. Ask them what their favorite characters are or try something completely different to reveal an unknown side of themselves. Maybe they always wanted to become superheroes or dress up in the style of the 80s? Or maybe they are fascinated by historical costumes? So why not use this for a photoshoot that will show love beyond time and place?

You can prepare to this photoshoot by writing a draft of ideas what the heroes would do. Where did they meet? How did they fall in love? Put your own questions and you’ll find many ideas you can organize on a photoshoot.

Wonders of the world

Of course, we are not talking about going immediately to Egypt to take pictures of your couple with the Pyramid of Cheops. However, look at the historical places in the city or out of town or look for unique points that will add to the frame’s grandiosity. Experiment with space and show the world as lovers see it.

You can start by finding popular place in town were couples usually meet and then move to some historical sights. These locations can tell a story about true love living through times of constant change. You can always experiment with geometry and scale, don’t be afraid to take pictures where your couple is very small. If you do it right and use rules of composition, your couple will feel inseparable of that historical place.

Road trip

Why not go on a road trip? Many couples love adventure or travel without a specific point of arrival. It is quite possible to invent a photo shoot on the way. Show a thirst for travel and reflect the craving for the discovery of everything new. After all, with the other half you can go at least to the end of the world.

I advise have route prepared but do not follow it strictly, just as soon as you see a cool spot for a picture stop your car and go there. Remember that you need time on every spot you choose, so if you use car to go to different places, don’t stay in one place for too long or the photoshoot will go on forever.

Beach romance

Photos on the sea coast – it is almost synonymous with romance. If you have the opportunity to shoot on the beach, do not miss it – because where else you will find the same sky and impeccable horizon line? It’s photographer’s dream. Perhaps even in February you can invent an interesting way to show love with the rough seas in the background. Instead of sand your background may have snow, and instead of beach outfits couple will have to wear warm jackets.

Hobby

Ask your couple if they have the same interests and use these in the story. Each couple shares something in common. Whether it’s a passion for music, painting, sports or cooking. Take pictures while a couple is busy with their favorite hobby. This will help to set the playful mood for the whole photoshoot. This will help you to concentrate and spend more time taking pictures. And this means you’ll spend less time generating ideas, because the plot of the story will develop by itself

City lights

Nightlife in a big city is rich and wild! Get out there and capture it! Works so well as a romantic ending of any love story photoshoot. Do not worry about lighting and background – the city will take care of it, and you will only have to catch models in the most interesting and sometimes unexpected places. Try to look for places where light can shine over your couple – city lamps, store window, any light source will do great. Use background of windows, take pictures at the crossroads or near the popular club. In this regard, the whole city is your film set.

Dance

Movement is life, and dance combines art and intimacy, grace and tension. If you’re lucky and the couple aren’t shy about dancing, why not play it? Ask your clients about their favorite track and just play it on Spotify! Tell your couple to immerse themselves in the dance! It doesn’t matter where it happens – at home, in the city or in the park. In any case, unique movements and facial expressions are not comparable to anything. This is great material to have in your portfolio!

Among the books

There is some magic in libraries, don’t you think? Old folios and new editions still smelling of print paint. Books create a wonderful background, especially for a couple of book lovers. Ask your clients if they have a common favorite author and rent his novel in the library. Among the shelves with books, the couple in love will feel intimate and lovely. You’ll be able to catch their barely noticeable emotions and reflections through the empty spaces between the books.

In the crowd

This is how we find love among billions of other people. Show the feeling that connects lovers by taking pictures of them surrounded by unfamiliar faces. Let only two out of thousands look at each other, reinforcing the belief in the present feeling. You can use a neat trick here: tell your couple to freeze for a minute in a kiss and shoot with a long shutter speed. This will make passing crowd to blur in motion.

Ideas for “Love story” photo shoot

Do not forget to show the details. They may be only a part of the photo shoot, however, these pictures will enhance the story about your couple

All the ideas work great together. Mix it up! You can shoot in the library, then go and make pictures in the crowd, then find an intimate place to shoot something romantic or just have fun there. A couple in love will help you catch the intimacy of their relationship and communication between soul mates. Finish the photoshoot with something romantic: a dance, city lights as a final touch.
